Whether you’re already the doting owner of a proud Boston Terrier parent or you’re excited about the prospect of adopting a Boston Terrier, simply continue reading to discover a valuable guide full of tips on how to take care of your Boston Terrier.

How to Take Care of Your Boston Terrier:

Ensure to take your Boston Terrier out for daily walks:

While Boston Terriers aren’t large dogs and don’t require multiple walks per day, it’s advisable to take your Boston Terrier out for at least one short to medium length walk per day. Just be careful not to pull on your dog’s lead if they are walking at a slower pace than you as Boston Terriers have relatively short legs for their frame.

Avoid leaving them alone for extended periods of time:

As Boston Terriers are highly social and easily bond with their family members, it’s not advisable to leave them alone for extended periods of time. If no one is your home works from home, you may want to drop your dog off at a doggie day care center, so that they’ll receive the attention which they need to feel happy and safe. As Boston Terriers are prone to experiencing separation anxiety.

Clean their teeth regularly:

In order to decrease your pet’s chance of developing a dental disease, ensure to clean their teeth on a regular basis and to purchase dog chews which will clean and polish their teeth. Most vets recommend brushing your dog’s teeth twice a week in order to keep up their oral health.

Don’t give into the temptation to over feed your Boston Terrier:

Unfortunately Boston Terriers are prone to putting on extra weight, so be sure to provide your Boston Terrier with a healthy, vet approved diet. Also try to refrain from offering your Boston Terrier extra treats, that are full of excess, unnecessary calories. If you feel tempted to feed your dog extra snacks, hold back and find alternative ways of expressing your love to your dog such as rubbing their belly or playing a game of fetch with them.

Brush their coat at leat once a week:

Ideally you should brush your Boston Terrier’s coat 1-2 times per week. Depending on how much hair they are shedding. Pay particular attention to the base of your dog’s tail and their facial folds.

Clean your Boston Terrier’s ears once a week:

Also ensure to clean your Boston Terrier’s ears on a weekly basis. In order to prevent their ears from becoming infected.

Use positive training methods:

While they are extremely smart Boston Terriers are also known for being highly sensitive and don’t cope well with strict training methods such as yelling or lecturing. Instead try to end each training session on a good note and to use rewards to encourage positive behaviors such as responding correctly to simple commands.
